First Friday Denton with Fritz Schwalm

First Friday Denton at A Creative Art STUDIO is always a lot of fun, but June was one of the best gatherings. Fritz Schwalm, singer/songwriter was a definite audience pleaser with both his original and cover tunes. Linka Behn, artist extraordinaire, lead visitors in creating the community abstract art painting. This masterpiece was created with signatures of people at first Friday followed by everyone painting in all areas created by the signature's intersecting lines. The results are pictured and I think it came out pretty neat. The art is always amazing at the studio and also changes frequently so stop in and see what is new.

Time Flies When you are having fun!

Wow, I just looked at my last blog entry and I can't believe it has been so long since I have written. Since the last blog so much has gone on at the studio. On March 26 we had a wonderful art opening. We are now up to 40 local artists in the gallery and the new art show does look incredible. Drew Zaremba and Brian Ward opened the show with wonderful Jazz which was perfect for the spring show. As people viewed the art one of my favorite groups Baloney Moon set up in the back for an incredible evening set. They played outdoors, as you can see by the photo. I am hoping that we get to have more events that include the outdoors. Thanks to everyone who attended.......Robin

Happy New Year, 2011

Happy New Year everyone. The studio had it's own new year celebration on January 7th. As you can see by the photos, top hats were required. Fritz Schwalm performed at the studio for the very first "First Friday" of the New Year. What a wonderful evening. Fritz's has a wonderful voice and played music enjoyed by all. Linka Behn and Kerry Boutell demonstrated their amazing art techniques and we had the most wonderful crowd in attendance. Good food, great music and wonderful conversations. Can't beat that!

First Friday with Glen Farris

Glen Farris played at the studio for the November First Friday Denton. This is his encore performance in the studio and it was a treat to get to hear him play again. Glen plays the guitar and harmonica and does a wide array of music. His friend, Doug Burr, joined him for a song and they sounded amazing together. Great Music and Art and wonderful people to visit with.....what could be better. Check out the photos from the evening.

First Friday Denton with Simone Nicole

Simone Nicole played at the studio on the First Friday in August. I would have to say that it was was an absolutely wonderful show. Simone has been singing since she was 14 and after performing with a band for a couple of years she decided to go solo and do some of her own music. We look forward to her coming back this fall and performing again in the studio. Be sure and check out her myspace and her website. www.simonenicole.com. Check out the photos of the evening........Robin

Art Show

A Great time was had by all at the Sizzling Summer Art Show. We had a wonderful turnout and if you got to come, no doubt you got to enjoy the wonderful artwork from both our veteran and new artists. I think this is the best show yet. It was quite a spread with food provided by Sweet Basil, the artists and friends. Vanessa Helvey and David White kicked off the celebration with both cover songs and original songs written by Vanessa. The Boxcar Bandits then took the stage and performed an amazing set. Gotta love those Boxcar Bandits. A new addition to this opening was the opportunity to have your portrait done by Gregory Conlin and not only could you have your portrait done, but watch him in action. He will be back at our next First Friday in case you didn't get the opportunity to have your portrait sketched. Didn't get to come? Here are a few photos........Robin

Sizzling Summer Art Show

Wow, is all I have to say today about our Sizzling Summer Art Show. Yes, it is Sizzling somewhat outside. After all, it is Texas, but I have to admit our Summer Art Show is also a Sizzler. We are busy hanging our beautiful show and preparing for Saturday. Our artists have brought in beautiful works and we have added several new artists to our gallery since the last show and I think you will enjoy getting to see their work. Click HERE for a short article about our opening on Saturday. Since the information was given to the paper we have added several other new Artists. Crystal Nelson's beautiful collage works, the paintings of Mariko Frost who was featured in the Texas National, 2009, Jennifer Leigh Jones, who in 2009 was Awarded as being one of The New Dallas Nine Artist’s in D Magazine, and new artist Joshua Rackley. I am so looking forward to hearing Vanessa Helvey play and sing and tap my feet to the "have to love em " Boxcar Bandits.......Robin

First Friday Denton, June 2010

My favorite day of the month is quickly becoming the First Friday of the month. At the studio, the work tables are pushed back to make room for the music and fun. Last first Friday Adam Cline and Joel Dreistadt performed for the biggest first Friday crowd that we have had. Also known as the group White Gorilla, these experienced musicians filled the studio with some rock, some folk and shared many of their original songs with the crowd. Adam and Joel had been playing together for four years and prior to forming their duo, were busy traveling around the midwest with another group. With Adam, singer-songwriter, on his guitar and Joel playing percussion, the crowd checked out the beautiful art, visited with friends and listened to some of Denton's local talent. What a great evening. If you missed it, you can check out the pictures and put First Friday Denton July on your calendar....Robin

Time and Nature

Last week the studio hosted the Bachelor of Fine Arts Senior Exhibition by Greta Perea and Shannon Saxman. The front of the studio housed their beautiful works. Their show was a smashing success with great art, music and wonderful food. The show ran for three days and everyone that came in raved about their work! Missed it? Check out some of the pictures from the event....Robin

First Friday Denton, April, 2010

Each First Friday of the Month, our studio stays open late for those who would like to stop by for evening art viewing. This past Friday we had a wonderful evening of art with the sounds of Glen Farris in the studio. We had quite the crowd beginning around 6:00 pm and Glen began playing around 7:00. Glen plays the guitar, sings and plays the harmonica, and as his sounds filled the studio, smiles filled the faces of those listening. His music transcended the various ages of art and music lovers that were gathered and he even took requests.
Join us May 7th for First Friday Denton. We have a wonderful duo lined up to perform at the studio....Robin

Art Opening

Saturday we had our second art Opening. The studio looked beautiful and the new photography room was completed although I have to admit that paint was still being applied the night before. So many friends and patrons came out to support the studio. The music was great and we were so lucky to have such talented musicians perform as the Dana Isaac Trio along with Deke and Dana's daughter Tess. The Boxcar Bandits were outstanding as usual and you might notice in the picture that there is a Boxcar Bandit want-to-be. This art show exhibited the art of 24 artists and there was such a variety we are hoping that there was something of interest for everyone. If you didn't get to make it to the exhibit, stop by anytime between 12 and 6 pm Monday through Saturday and check out what we have been doing.......Robin

Thursday, March 25, 2010

We are looking so forward to our art opening on Saturday. Today in the Denton Times a short article came out in the paper about the opening and our classes. On the internet site they did not post the pictures that were included in the Hard copy of the article so I will post them here. Life is good......Robin

Nx35 at A Creative Art Studio

Saturday was a tremendous day in the Studio. We have almost finished hanging the new art for the show and celebration on March 27th and the new Photography gallery is almost ready. Saturday was also a day full of music and for our Nx35 unofficial show we had 5 groups play their original works. The Studio is really a great place for an intimate concert and everyone in attendance seemed to agree. The show was kicked off by the Wheeler Sparks group and Wheeler performed his beautiful songs written for his grandfather. Very nice. Following Wheeler Sparks was singer and piano player LaLagray. Her unique style and voice totally captured your heart. The Early Birds performed several tunes that were great and had quite a following. Clint Niosi played his folksy acoustic set demonstrating that he is an accomplished guitar player as well as songwriter. Special guests from Brooklyn, New York, completed the show. I would highly recommend checking out any of these fantastic musicians. Music and art, what a great combo....Robin

Opening Celebration

Our opening celebration was held on Saturday evening and a celebration it was. Our music was provided by Elaine Davis on the harp followed by the bluegrass sounds of Boxcar Bandits. Sweet Basil donated the most wonderful Thai food.... their famous Cashew Chicken and fried rice. So much food, fun and so many people. Thanks to everyone who turned out for this special occasion.
