Lots of fun in Acrylic and Collage Class

The Acrylic and Collage class has come to an end but the students had lots of fun. Acrylic painting is a quick dry paint and perfect to use as a medium when doing a collage. Collages are fun to make but can be quite the serious art. If you were unable to make it to this class, keep an eye on the class calendar because it will be offered again after the holiday season. Check out what the students did in this class!

Acrylic and Collage Painting

Kerry Boutell is teaching an Acrylic and collage painting class at the studio and the students are having a lot of fun. Acrylic paint is a fast drying paint containing pigment suspended in acrylic polymer or plastic. Many of Kerry's paintings are Acrylic with collage and I think it is helpful to get to see the finished artwork of the teacher. There is no place better to paint than in a studio gallery with beautiful paintings. Check out the pictures of the class. The next class Kerry will teach will be a Day of the Dead, dia de muertos that begins in October.

Valentine Gifts

I was looking around the studio today and realized that we would be a great place to look for that one of a kind valentine gift. Original artwork, jewelry, pottery or a gift certificate for an art class could be the perfect gift for your valentine. A few weeks ago I took the Watercolor Batik class and made some beautiful original batiks. These were used to make the printed valentines that you see one of the pictures along with some handmade jewelry and pottery. The second picture shows a pair of earrings made by Robin Lind which I thought would be especially beautiful as a gift. How could you go wrong with handcrafted sterling silver heart earrings? ...... Get ready to Party!

We had our first ART PARTY at the studio this past weekend. I spent the week making cute artist smocks from recycled T-shirts for the kids to wear to protect their clothing. Although time consuming, these artist smocks will be great for future parties and children's art classes that are planned. The studio looked very festive with the addition of the colorful decorations and special Birthday decor. We offer various art activities for parties but this party was a Paint a T-Shirt party. The group of eight year olds practiced by first drew out their designs on cardstock. After a lesson on painting, the partygoers selected their paint and began creating their masterpieces. The end results were color and unique and wearable. Fun was had by all....Robin

Watercolor Batik Class

The Watercolor Batik Class began Tuesday evening. Batik is a process where wax is applied to fabric or paper which acts as a resist to the paint or dye that is applied. Examples of Batik can be traced back over 1,500 years to Egypt and the Middle East. Samples have also been found from previous centuries in India, Japan, Turkey and China. In the Watercolor Batik class we are applying the wax to rice paper with a tool called a Tjanting, which is a traditional tool used to draw precise lines of wax onto the paper. In my case on Tuesday the lines were not that precise, however, I can tell that the more you work with the tool and wax, the more you are able to guide the tool and control the amount of wax that comes out. The tool looks a small brass vessel with a funnel tip attached to a handle. After you create your design with the wax, you apply the watercolor to the paper. The final step is to remove the wax by ironing the paper and using newsprint to absorb the melted wax. The result is a beautiful watercolor which maintains the beautiful whites. The light colors are translucent and I especially enjoyed the end results because they look like stained glass paintings. I really like this process and can't wait to do more. Here are some pictures of the class and some photos of some examples done.......Robin

A Creative New Beginning

A Creative Art STUDIO is the dream of two artists in Denton, Texas. Robin Huttash and Lin Hampton have quietly and spontaneously entered the fine art world with a retail Art Gallery and Studio. The new venture provides an opportunity for local artists to exhibit their work AND this venture provides the reality of Living the Dream for Robin and Lin. Please join them as this adventure unfolds. Robin and Lin begin their Blog with a recounting of how this adventure began, and what happens every day.

"We are excited about our awesome space. We begin by sharing some images of this beautiful location. Please join us for a steaming cup of Wassail on the evening of the Denton Tree Lighting, Thursday, December 3rd. Then join us again for the Opening Celebration on Saturday, December 12th, from 4 until 8 pm."
